The Five Laws of Liberty is an honest examination of the biblical view of freedom. The book thoroughly examines Scripture passages that deal specifically with the concept of freedom and sheds light on Christ’s teaching on the subject. In order for freedom to flourish within relationships, every action should be governed by The Five Laws of Liberty.
Why is it important to have a proper understanding of freedom? According to educator and author, Scott Hyland, life and liberty thrive within the parameters of The Five Laws of Liberty:
• Remember the Past • Embrace the Truth • Respect Humanity • • Self-control (Restraint) • Protect and Serve others •
As a nation, America proudly exhibits a heritage of placing these laws into practice. Unfortunately, in recent years, we have witnessed deterioration in our ability to focus our sight upon the founding principles of our country.
If this practice continues, our country will decline from democracy to anarchy, from anarchy to bondage, from bondage to tyranny, from tyranny to oppression, and from oppression to death.
In order to preserve life and prevent the extinction of our nation, we must learn to train our sights upon the The Five Laws of Liberty.
EXCERPTS:
Today many people using the word freedom have little to do with acquiring or sustaining the state it represents. The word freedom launches from the silo of their soul and explodes into the atmosphere with the least amount of impact upon their lives or the lives of others. It has become nothing more than a word frivolously thrown into any sentence in order to excuse selfish behavior. Introduction: Zeroing in on Freedom - p. 7
Jesus Christ demonstrated that the key to freedom was eternally linked to an intimate relationship with God. Everything that he did grew out of a deep desire to please His Father. Christ made it clear that a high view of God produces a high view of humanity, and this was certainly reflected in the way He treated the people within his sphere of influence. He not only displayed immortal perfection but also embraced and transformed the lives of the mortally imperfect. The preservation of life was the driving force behind his understanding of freedom. The Constitution governs the states within the United States. Any constitution is only as strong as the men who abide by it—meaning that the weight of a given constitution is correlated to the value which any generation of governing officials wishes to bestow upon it. People, not paper, govern states. If the elected leaders decide to make laws overriding a state’s original constitution, they can do so without the least bit of backtalk from the constitution because paper does not talk. The question then becomes, how do we produce men who will govern with the original principles that this country was founded upon? Chapter 1: The Fireworks of Freedom - p. 7
